Sorry Guys it's an 84 stock L 98 I haven't got it apart yet but cylinders will probably be .010 over when I start putting it back together and I want to add some horses. I'll put roller rocker arms on it but I don't want to worry about cutting the valve seats deeper or changing the valve springs. Is a .500 lift cam to much? is .450 to much? I know duration comes into play also but I don't want to get to radical.

Youll want to stick with something mild for the 84
get the recommend spring kit and have a qualified shop measure the installed height ck your coil bind etc. Doesnt cost much

a .500 lift spring (dropping it in with nothing else) doesnt mean its set up right.

Plenty of CFI guys who have btdt can probably pipe in with exactly what pn to use.

Roller cam or flat tappet? If you're staying with the flat tappet cam, don't be tempted with the 1.6 roller rockers. Yes, they'll give you more valve lift, but they also give you more pressure between the cam lobes and the flat tappets. With today's low zinc oils, this is really taking a risk that the added pressure will shorten the life of your camshaft. Use special "break-in" oil for the first oil change if you can find it, or if you can't find it, use API Service Grade SM for the first few changes. API Grade SN has very low zinc (for longer catalytic converter life).

If you're going with a roller cam, ignore this suggestion.

p.s. The stock '84 engine is called an L83. When I built mine, I went .040 over, which gave me 357 CI and a 1/2 point bump in my compression ratio. With a SERIOUS porting job on my intake manifold, mine now runs good! My TB injectors are stock.

I will be doing the valve job myself I have the guide press drifts the reamers the hones and neway valve seat cutters I can grind the valves on the O.D. grinder at work. I'll also bore the cylinders have a Van Norman 905 boring bar. So I would still like to know what lift cam I should buy?

Thanks corvettenorway I've been looking at some in the .425 .450 range That should give me good performance but still a smooth idle.
