Default oil pressure varies

have a 1988 corvette, it always carries 45 to 50 lbs of pressure, started it the other day and the most I get is 35, varies from 19 to 35, about 1800 miles on change, dipstick shows full and is clean, previous owner used Castrol high mileage , car has 98,000 miles, only thing I have had to do to it is cluster repair, any suggestions on what to look for, thanks

..... What filter did you use ? ... What weight oil ? ... It could be the sending unit , but when they go bad its usually because its leaking ... they will leak down the drivers side back of the block and drip near the oil filter ......

When the sending unit on my 89 went bad the pressure reading would vary from high to low and back, even when driving at a constant speed... Could be the sender....WW

Thank you, the previous owner used castrol hm 10w30, I will check for a leak, think I should go ahead and replace the sending unit? What oil does most people recommend?
