Default Can't catch a friggin break!

It seems like I have problems with everything I buy. I purchased a D.U.I. distributor assembly from Summit Racing for $285. I am in the process of putting my motor back together, reached over and looked into the cap of my D.U.I. distributor, and saw that the center post is melted! Right where it contacts the rotor. This distributor has 500 - 1000 miles on, and it already failed. This is getting ridiculous.

Any ideas what caused this?

Never liked the quality of the clear plastic, The colored caps are made from a phenolic material and are much better and stand up to higher temps.

Nothing more to the story. Looked online and it said people were having problems like this when using an MSD ignition box. I called MSD, they said they it's due to a gap between the rotor and the carbon ball. Well, the carbon ball melted away. And whose responsibility is it to ensure a new product is set up properly? The manufacturer. I had no influence over this.

Yes. You spent $285 on an aftermarket distributor. You should have used a stock GM HEI. They are cheap, work great, and last a long, long time.

Have you dyno tuned it yet?

How did you spend $285 for a distributor?? I thought you could not afford to dyno tune it? I am really confused at this point (again). Give us the story; I know I will enjoy it....

The money I was ready to spend on the dyno tune went to fixing the damn thing after the chain popped.

UPDATE: Returned the D.U.I. distributor shortly after this happened, Fall of 2014. Purchased Echlin distributor cap, rotor, coil from NAPA Auto Parts and used the stock distributor. Probably around 500 - 1000 miles later I removed the Echlin distributor cap, it was not burnt! So the problem is either the quality of D.U.I. parts in general, the D.U.I. CLEAR plastic cap in particular, or a COMBINATION of their high output coil, MSD 6AL2 ignition box, and the longer duration sparks from D.U.I.'s ignition module.
