Hi!!
Lost the clutch I a/c thick rubbery came out of clutch the pump turns think it just smoked clutch no sign of oil from pump! Does anyone know if the 87 clutch could be used on 88? Looking up to buy clutch and picture looks like the 84-87? Or are they just using a easy picture?

1988 you should have a nippondenso compressor. Call or email Bob at Century Auto Air in Arizona and get a new clutch assembly for around $100. I just put mine on a couple of weeks ago after I fried it. Bob is super helpful, great customer service, and knows his stuff.

BTW, you can replace it on the car. You need to remove the belt, a 10 mm bolt and two snap rings along with the phillips head screw holding the wiring harness on. The new wires get spliced in.

'87 and earlier C4s have a Harrison AC compressor. In 1988 they switched to Denso (actually Nippon Denso, but everybody calls it Denso).
