The overdrive is controlled by the transmission. The ECM only controls the torque converter lockup.

The ECM controls the timing, using the distributor as a source for timing pulses. You should keep it or change to a "small cap" electronic distributor with a remote coil (I wouldn't).

Ok what have is a corvette with no injection not even the motor so I put an older motor in with a carb so my question is will the ECM work the lock up in the torque converter or do I have to change and do an after market lock up

Why not just find a top end TPI unit and put it back stock?

Good luck, I'm sure some of the guys who have made the backward conversion will post up with some help for you. I went the other way many years back and put a TPI & R700 in an 80 if I remember I got a vacuum relay to work the lock-up converter.

Search function works great..

The ECM locks the torque converter when you go faster than 40 MPH. You have to have the VSS hooked up and working so the speedometer works. The dash passes the speed on to the ECM so it knows the vehicle speed.

You really should start a new thread when you have a problem that is not related to the original problem. That is known as hijacking the thread and is considered to be bad netiquette.

You need to take the dash out and examine the connections on the PC board. This site will help you:
