FSM, Paper vs. CD ?
So, I have a pair of C4's with one that's being a bit of a PITA with what I believe is an electrical issue (92 dies & restarts after time, No codes). Anyway, I know I should have a set of FSM's. Not only for trouble shooting the currant issue, but future issues that are sure to come.
With that I'm wondering if the CD versions of the FSM's are truly complete direct digital copies of the paper version? Or are the CD versions more like cliff note's of the FSM?

It's really nice to have the manual right there by you so you can reference back and forth for trouble shooting, with a CD you either have to have a laptop or print out what you want, big hassle. The factory manual is well worth the money.

Can't beat paper.

I have looked at the description of some of the CD versions on eBay and they dont really say that it is a true Factory Service Manual copy. While we say "Service Manual", they say "Repair Manual" and the description of contents just doesnt seem right to me. Maybe something a little more advanced than a Chilton/Haynes but not the GM book. Just seems that with a new FSM paper copy from Helminc.com costing $120 or so that a $15 CD just wouldnt be the same thing if GM is getting their cut.
I may be totally wrong, hopefully someone will jump in with more info.

I hate paper so CD would be my choice.

I have both for my '84 and '91. I don't want to get my books greasy dirty, so I have the Bishko CD versions. The great thing about the CD's is they are searchable and you can view them from the laptop or print the pages you need (get those greasy dirty).

My paper FSM is VERY highlighted, marked up and it has a lot of bookmarks in it.

The hard copy FSM seems to be around $100 whereas the CD is cheaper at less than half the price. If the CD is the same content as the hard copy, couldn't you just buy the CD, print out the FSM and put it in a binder?
I think the original question was are the CD versions, the same as the hard copy FSM. I'd also be grateful for an answer as I'm just about to purchase one or the other.
Thanks
Darren

id never, ever, go with paper.
the thing is huge, i can search it. i can print one page if i want.
its a pdf file direct scan with ocr being used.
no brainer. get it on cd rom then hust put it on your hard drive.
and for those guys with reading glasses a simple cntrl + will zoom in for easier to read.
if u want to see a sample of one let me know. i can pull a couple pages of the file as a sample for you so u can see exactly what it looks like. its a .pdf. i have the 87.

There is now a searchable FSM on CD. Check this link:

I had paper, then I scanned it into a searchable PDF. I still like the paper better. It just seems like less hassle and generally seems faster to me.
