Default 84 rod noise

my 84 started knocking and oil pressure goes from 5 psi to 50 or so psi.mechanic listened to it and told me I have a rod or rods going. can any body tell me if they have an idea what it would run to have the bottom end done while engine is in the car . been told it would be about 5000 to rebuild the engine. Dont know if it is worth it on a 84? thank you.

"While in the car"? It's coming out either way. A rebuild of the short block could run $2000 to $4000 depending on what's done. It would be cheaper to just buy a crate engine/short block if keeping the original engine isn't important to you.

I agree with jv9999, just get a crate motor and be done with it, think jegs has the long block for less than 1500. Plus figure another 1000 for labor hopefully and you are still at half of what they quoted you.

If mine goes, i'll do a stock or midly higher horsepower long block crate motor, and install it myself.
