Default 84 Wheel Alignment Specs

Hi guys,

Just about to replace the bushings in my front suspension and will need to get an alignment once done. I know some of the components in the front end changed in later models (steering knuckles etc) and the alignment specs changed for later models to introduce more castor, so my question is this. Should I run factory alignment specs for the 84 or do the specs for later models suit the 84 better?

I'd love to hear from other 84 owners who have nailed their alignment specs and have a great feel. At the moment, my car tram tracks quite a bit, but that could be due to the worm bushings etc, and the steering feels quite heavy.

Anyway, thanks in advance and I'd appreciate any and all help.

Regards,

Darren

Definitely align it to 87 specs. You want 6 degrees of caster instead of 3-3.5.
The reset of the specs I set it to is zero toe & camber front to rear. I wanted maximum tire life.

Check out the alignment specs on the VetteBrakes page

The PDF document shows both Daily Driver and Advanced Street specs for 84-96 cars for front and rear. They don't show a different set of specs for the 84.

Besides replacing the bushings, are the ball joints and outer tie rod ends in good shape? The condition of the rear suspension components are a factor in getting a good alignment too. Worn components will make the car feel loose.

Tire pressure can also help with the car tracking in ruts on heavily-traveled roads. Add air in 2 psi increments to see if that provides any help after an alignment.

I agree with the increased caster spec. I like 36 psi front and 32 psi rear in my '84 (255-50-16 tires and 9 1/2" rims), for best ride, handling, and tire wear. Nothing says front & rear inflation needs to be the same.
