drive belt
Hello everybody. Have the 96 vette collectors addition. Track is closed for the year, so time for some more maintenance.
2 questions. 1st Its not good to let a car just set, but I don't want to
run the wheels off of it either. I try to drive it at least 50 miles per week, is that enough?
2nd I am going to replace the drive belt. My maintenance book says
the this engine has a self adjustor that can be viewed from the
passenger side of the engine compartment. My belt runs on the
driver side. Assume that the directions are for an older C-4.
Question is there seem to be two idlers. The chart on the radiator
indicates the the adjustor is the one right above the crank pulley.
Is this a self adjustor? In any event, what is the best way to
change this belt.
As always I appreciate all of your help.
I did make that last race of the season and the car performed better
than I had hoped. The ability of the driver however is another story,
having been away for it for 17 years. As good as an excuse as I can
come up with on short notice.
Thanks again Putz

I think driving it every week or so till the engine is up to normal temps is sufficient.
On my '88 there is a square hole in the adjuster. Just insert the end of a 1/2" breaker bar and press down till the serp is loose enough to slide off the pulleny. Loop the new serp over the pulleys and depress the idler enough to slip over its pulley.
