C4 Cracked rear spring replacement
I have a 1989 6 speed with only 80k miles that started making a noise in the rear area.I rolled under the car and noticed the rear spring was cracked and splitting.I checked my spare parts and had 3 different springs,a RHY from a 96,a BMF from an 84 and a NYR from a 90.You can see the difference in the arch in the picture.After reading some posts I decided to replace with the NYR which is what was in it anyway.I know that something had to cause the spring to crack and after careful inspection found that the u joints were bad in the halfshaft on the same passenger side but only after replacing just the spring.

I have read that it can happen from exhaust heat, using de-greaser to clean the suspension or an accident.
