Default BROKEN STUDS!!

Well as some of you may have read, I blew the front seal on the transmission and had to replace it, well in the process on taking the car apart to get the transmission out, 4 out of the 6 studs holding the exhaust to the manifold snapped off. I have now been out of my only means of transportation for a week and have spent the last 3 days trying to get those studs out and they havent busged a mm. I dont know what to do now. I guess were going to have to drill them out which sux. I just need my car back, I cant keep hitching rides to work. :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad :mad

Take a propane torch and heat them buggers up. Same thing happen to me. Vise grips and some heat works great..

ive been wrenching the hell out of the little buggers with some vice grips. But see, when i busted the seal the entire bottom of my car got coated in tranny fluid. I dont want to make something go boom!

I would remove them. :yesnod:

It would make things go much easier...

Also, go easy on the bolts when you reinstal them, a few of us have broken the ears off the manifolds when we tightened down the exhuast.

Try Liquid Wrench, and lots of it. Whack them a copla times and apply more.

If they still won't budge clean off the tranny fluid with carb cleaner. After it dries, use the torch.

If you have to pull the manifolds, remove the access panel in the right inner wheel well to gain access to the clamp that holds the AIR tube to the right manifold. Be careful with the dip stick filler tube to not bend it when removing the right manifold.

I had 2 studs break on my 85. I soaked it good with break free, started it up to heat it a bit, and resoaked it. Did this a few times then took a stud/bolt extractor specifically for 10 mm and pulled them both no problem. The extractor I used looks like a regular 3/8 drive socket from the side, but the inside looks almost like a female version of an easy out. It was $8 well spent.
