Default ECU Swap Question

I have a 85 with a 383. I want to swap the 870ecu for a 1994-95 16188051 ecu. The 870 ecu is still in use for the car's dash cluster. I was able to pick up a 165 wire harness for a good price with the intent to do a 870 to 165 swap. My Question is can I repin a 165 wire harness for a 1994-95 16188051 ecu? Or will I need a complete 16188051 engine wire harness with ecu? I understand this is a speed density ecu. My car is already running on a after market SD system that I'm not happy with. I want to upgrade to a flash ecu for tuning purpose and to run a 4l80e tranny.

The later cars have more O2 sensors than the single one the 1227165 ECM uses. You would have to deal with those somehow.

The ECM connectors are completely different (4 vs. 2), so you would need to figure that out.

You can get flash capability with the 1227165 ECM by using a Moates Ostrich or similar adapter.

Thanks for the info. I want to keep this swap simple so I'll stick with the 870/ 165 swap.
