Transmission not shifting out of 1st gear
Hey everyone
My 93 LT1, automatic doesn't shift out of first gear. Every gear works, reverse, drive, D1 and so on. Also, when I put it drive, the car jerks forward. Basically you feel the car move when I put it in drive, with my foot still on the brake. The transmission fluid in the pics only has about 100 miles on it. Any thoughts on this?

TV cable
have you had the TV cable adjusted recently? or done work around it?
Also the is a modulator, can't remember the name right now, that will make the car feel like you are driving a standard and it won't shift. Another symptom of that same valve is when you come to a halt the car will stall like a standard the you didn't depress the clutch on.
Maybe that will help, maybe not. hope you get it found.

Yes, I had the TV cable adjusted about a month ago. Got it adjusted because the gas pedal was loose. The car did stall out on my yesterday. Only when approaching a stop light. When I started it back up, I had to rev it. Tho I'm not sure if it's trans related? Car has new optispark, plugs, wires, FPR and injectors. How does the fluid look to you guys?

modulator
the car stalling as you come to a stop is a symptom of the modulator I'm talking about.
Talk to a trans shop. They will tell what it is called, or I'm sure someone on here will know.

I also vote governor issue. However, the TV Cable needed adjustment and that is a good indication that it had seen better days.
The heat and compression of the casing that the TV Cables see weakens them and they don't hold their adjusted length when they get old. Have the trans shop replace it and save future grief!

Thanks!^
My dad messed with the TV cable and then I felt the gas pedal loose. That's what caused it and why I got it re adjusted. You mean have the trans shop replace the TV cable?

TCC solenoid. Has nothing to do with not shifting. TV cable adjustment will not make it stall.

But keep this in mind...it's real easy to get the cover off, putting it back on is near impossible. It helps to take the exhaust off.
I'll admit it first time right now....I have no show car, I took a 2" hole saw and drilled through the floor to get my cover seated properly. I also removed it several times to adjust the shift points.

The corvette uses a specific governor, just like most vehicles with a 700R4. If you change the governor you screw up your shift points.
Sonnax has what they call a corvette governor, it's not the same as factory and it will shift differently.
I fine tuned my governor to get the shifts exactly where I wanted them, unless you feel like taking the exhaust off, the driveshaft, the c-beam out to lower the transmission several times(or drill a hole in your trans tunnel) I'd stick with the governor thats in the car now and do all that once just to change the gear.
Trust me you will find out if you choose to do it some other way, but as always thats up to you and we all make different decisions and learn different ways.

I recommended replacing the old TV cable as insurance against having the thing go bad, compress and cause shifting issues in the near future.
