Default why you don't need any fancy-schmancy caliper paint

one rattle can of sunrise red rustoleum - about 4-5 bucks

then - brake rebuild 2006

today - some 9 years, and 60K miles later

other than the red lost a little gloss, still holding up great.

...and a lot of marketing hype. not saying high-temp, ceramic paint is bad, just think it's overkill.

Stop lying to us. That car doesn't have 60K miles on it. It's just off the showroom floor.

thanks for the complement (I guess) -- the thing doesn't have 60K, but approaching 160K. it will be 30 years old in july, and I should hit the 160 mark by then. I bought the car in 1996, gave it to my son in 2008, and recently got my baby back. i'll drive this thing until I drop dead, and then my son can have it back -

How did you prep the calipers before you painted them?

Great Job!

thanks. actually did a full rebuild. broke them down to the piece-part, and (glass) bead blasted the caliper housing. masked the piston bore, and hardware contact points, a quick solvent wipe down, and two coats of paint. as with any paint work, it's all in the prep!

Therein lies the success. It is all in the prep. Where did you get the rebuild kit from? I have stainless lines I want to put on but would like to freshen up my calipers and paint them while I'm at it.

My calipers also still look good after a few years! Great before/after as proof though, Joe!!!

I wondered about this myself. Ultimately, I chose rattle-can engine paint...thinking it has to resist block rust AND high heat. And, yes, waaaay cheaper than caliper paint!!!

If you REALLY slam on the brakes a lot (like auto-x for example?), I suppose you could spring for 1200-deg header paint! LOL
