'85 Headlight Actuator Motor Issue - nylon gear is good, power is intermittent
Putting power to the plug the actuator turns full on then stops. Or put power to it and nothing, couple sparks off the plug. I know it's polarized between the gray and black wires, got it to spin both ways.
In action when installed the passenger headlight takes extra time to pop open, no problem popping down, if you leave it plugged it you can hear the motor churn like a creaking noise until the battery dies. Like it can't make it all the way to the electrical stop.

Your problem might be in the reversing contacts, which are located where the wires come into the motor.
The other place to be looking is at the relays. You can swap the right and left relays and see if the problem moves to the opposite side.

The motor shifts on its axis when the headlight door hit against the door stops. The worm gear "climbs" against the pinion gear, either to the left, or the right, depending on whether the door is opening or closing. That's what opens the electrical contacts and stops the motor from spinning when the door hits its stop. That's the reason for that big spring on the motor shaft.
