Default Oil pan options, L98 w/one-piece rear main.

Struggling here. I've got an 86 vette (aluminum heads, one-piece rear main) and about 6 months ago I chucked the stock oil pan (was badly dented) for a cheap-o replacement, which I believe was 4 quarts. Damn thing has never stopped leaking.

I'm mid-rebuild now and want to put the proper oil pan on before dropping her in. Problem with that is that it's been discontinued, obviously (stock # is 10055765) and I can't seem to find a direct replacement. Was wondering if any of y'all have a recommendation on an aftermarket pan that fits well, has the same capacity & ground clearance, etc.

Thanks in advance!

the good news is (I'm pretty sure) is that any vette pan for a one piece rear seal through 1996 should work. They have to be available, you can't be the only one out there with a dented pan.

I went through this with a 96; curiously (or not), a new stock oil pan cost as much as an after market (canton) pan; in other words, expensive. try a corvette recycler for a good used pan; whatever pan you decide on remember a vette pan is very shallow, 6&7/8ths inch, 7 inches with gasket....don't get anything deeper.

where is the pan leaking at? any theories as to why your new pan leaks? did you re install the reinforcing strips along the sides of the pan? did you use a quality one piece gasket with the pre installed metal grommets to prevent crushing the gasket? did you use a judicious amount of RTV? usually these pans and gaskets are pretty oil tight. Could it be a front main seal and the oil's being blown onto the pan ?

The sky will not fall if you got a bit deeper on the oil pan. I drive on some of the worst roads and have never dented any pan engine or trans on any of my cars.

Were you able to re-use the side reinforcements from the original or did you install with "none"?

I do believe you can use any later oil pan, pump and the pickup remained the same. Clean used with no physical damage could likely be better than anything other than a higher ended replacement out there.

You need the reinforcements.

The reinforcements are still available new I believe.

Check the C4 Parts For Sale section for an oil pan. Also send a PM to "See4parts"; he's a CF supporting vendor as is "Northern Corvette" but he's in Ontario, Canada.

Here is one I would suggest; there are others available here for less money. However Canton makes quality products.

I went with a Champ pan over Canton and been extremely happy. Not a drop of oil from the welds or the gasket. You will lose the low oil sensor, not sure if your car has one, but it's 8.5 quarters and I wouldn't worry about running it low. Really helped keep my oil temps down and have yet to see the oil pressure gauge drop through the turns.

I got that exact pan and the rail is warped out of the box. I only checked after I installed my other canton drivers side dipstick stock appearing pan and had trouble bolting it on. I liked the 1st pan I got from looks, but didn't check it out enough. Never buy a 2nd until you use the 1st I guess. Also had problems with a canton filter and I won't buy any more of their products. I was looking at a champ pan for my c4 when I get around to it and I like my moroso or stefs pans.

The Champ Pans CP40 series are stock appearing and would fit yuour needs. The Champ Pans are very high quality and made right here in America (Wisconsin). I've had one on my 383 for three years and I would buy another one if and when I need one. www.champpans.com

I had to reference oil pans for something else today and not that I am promoting it in anyway, but to be fair. Did you see this http://www.jegs.com/i/Canton-Racing-...ductId=1993463

This is the 7-3/4 champ pan I like http://www.champpans.com/products/p/cp50ltrb/ but they have 7" pans with kickouts too.

I have the CP50 on my C4, very well built and it works very well with the extra oil cap. I have no experience with the Canton pan option and I like to speak from experience rather then opinion. I will say that you will most likely need to trim the front cross angle supports in order to get the proper clearance to install the pan. I have about 1/2" of clearance in the front cross member area, that's what I had to do with my Champ Pan.

Here's a used one on ebay...You can use a LT1 92-96 oil pan but you have to get a plug for the side where the oil level sensor would go...This is what I did on my 89....WW
