Default Hood release

I'm getting some good advise here on this forum.

One thing I can contribute, after owning/driving a
C3 and this C4, is to install an emergency cord to
each latch mech. on each side, with enough slack
to fish the middle up and pull, when your hood
release handle or cables break. Use a good stout
but small nylon string/cord. Tuck it down below
wiper blades.
It may be necessary on all generations also.

I had to buy the $25 tool to open my hood. I then installed those cables.

Wish I'd known about this... a while back my release handle broke and I had the battery run down and had to have it towed to the Corvette specialty shop to have them pop the hood...

quite a few threads on emergency release cables....you can buy them but just as easy (and cheaper) to get the stuff from any local hardware... The tool they sell is very difficult to use.....

I found a nice stainless fishing leader worked well for me in the past.

I've been trying to find a very small cable to make my emergency latch system. I've never found a cable that works well a 1/16th inch cable with the cable ends seem to mess with the latch free movement.

I have the perfect solution, I was shopping at a local Sporting goods store looking for some fall hunting items when I went down the trapping isle I saw some black snare wire. I wasn’t looking for snare wire but, when I saw it the lights came on. What a perfect cable / wire for my emergency latch release, you can get the cable ends to make loops etc and it can’t be much larger then a 1/32”. And it will pull well past 50 lbs.
