What metal is the Dana 36 diff case
I was noticing that the metal of the main part of the Dana 36 differential is a darker color than the aluminum of the batwing and other aluminum parts. Can anyone tell me what metal the diff is made from? Is it a different aluminum alloy or something entirely different? Just curious.

Yep, it's aluminum too. It struck me as odd that only one piece of the case was discolored darker, and it did not respond when I sprayed aluminum cleaner (weak acid) on it. But after i scrubbed it with cleaner to remove the patina of oil, the aluminum cleaner worked on it.
