Default datamaster, glowing red headers. gurus please help

well this is the start of this thread and the newbie questions and eye rolling... i'll just get out of the way now.

this is a first for me i have never messed with software/programming so please no abbreviations... talk to me like a child lol

i loaded the masterdata and already I'm stumped on even getting it to read the pcm( see picture) it says the adla cable is good but the ecm is not reading.

the issue I'm trying to resolve is after the first start the headers got hot enough to turn red. tune was done by pcmforless. moving it from the barn to the garage it was not very responsive either. any info would be great. guys I've built carbed motors plenty of times and know for some its no different for fuel injection ... but for me.. i'm just lost trouble shooting this issue. really hoping the datamaster will lead me in the right direction.

As I recall, running lean or with the timing retarded will cause the manifolds to glow red hot.

.. i dont even know how to adjust timing on this motor. doing the mechanical stuff for the build was easy but working with the pcm has me stumped. i was hoping this datamaster would lead me in the right direction but i cant even get it to read the pcm. at $300 i was hoping it would be a little more user friendly.

The year would help. And how it ran before you worked on it and what have you done.

Not sure where it will say it but in Datamaster under help about it should have something like Datamaster EE.

Ill try and help you. First make sure you have (Datamaster EE). Datamaster works on cars other than the vett. The EE designates Corvette. Note the EE designation at the upper left part of the screen.

^ This, in my experience, anyway. A plug not firing is throwing unburned fuel into the exhaust. That can make your manifold glow and DAMN sure can make your cats glow like halogens (if you have 'em).

I know too lean is no good either, but I've never EVER seen my vette run lean (despite my and other's best efforts).

Pull the dipstick, give it the sniff test. Smell like gas? If so, you're rich....not lean.

OP you also need to go to Setup>Vehicle Type and chose Y-Car, A/T.

EE basicly actually covers all 94-95 LT1.

Exactly what I was thinking! Have you checked this yet? I'd start with the easy stuff before diving into DataMaster.

There is way no to check the timing on the LT1 without a scan tool. You can check the air/fuel ratio with an exhaust sniffer. However Datamaster will tell you both. It is not for tuning but mainly for data logging, and clearing codes.

PS
Yes you can build a timing pointer and check it with a timing light. However unless you convert to a carburetor datamaster is a better option then a timing light.

I do have cats tuner software as well. Im in the car now. It wasnt on"y-vette" so i switched thaf. It is the datamaster EE got the port figured out and it worked.

Attached is the recording at idle for about 2 minutes.

DTC Diagnostic Trouble Code. Datamasater is showing there is at least one set. IN Datamaster click on View>DTC Codes post what it tells you.
