Default Newbie - help my 93 will not start

Hello all.

I do not have many tools to work on cars nor the experience so please go easy on me with all the tech talk.

I need help with my 1993 which I bought 2 years ago. One day it ran fine. I parked it and a week later it will not start. Fuel gauge indicated half a tank of gas.

With help this is what I did so far.

Engine cranks and nothing even with starting fluid. When the key is released it will sputter a few times then a puffy mist gets ejected out from the throttle body. It smells like there is some firing going on.

I bought a NOID light kit and tested one of the injectors. There is a pulsing light while cranking the engine.

I pulled a spark plug wire. Placed a screw driver into the wire end and held it near a bolt while helper cranked the engine. the spark color was orange to blue to white.

Module 1 codes are H72 and H74. No other codes in module 4 or 9.

Can anyone tell me about Service Bulletin Number: 87-65-27 ?

Help Please and thanks in advance.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what it reads when you turn the key on try it a few times then turn off and see how long it holds. My 94 will hold a nite. Might be a leaky injecto or fpr and is flooded. Smell the vacumme hose off your fpr and your oil for gas.

There has been a service bulletin for that type of concern. Here is what it states.
Engine - Miss/Poor Driveability
File In Section: 6E Engine Fuel & Emission
Bulletin No.: 87-65-27
Date: December, 1998

Subject:
Engine Miss/Poor Driveability Symptoms
(Install Opti-Spark (ABITS) Distributor Assembly Service Kit) Models:
1994-96 Buick Roadmaster
1994-96 Cadillac Fleetwood
1992-96 Chevrolet Corvette
1993-97 Chevrolet Camaro
1994-96 Chevrolet Caprice
1993-97 Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am
with 4.3L or 5.7L Engine (VINs W, P, 5 - RPOs L99, LT1, LT4)

Condition
Some vehicles with the above engines and equipped with the Opti-Spark (ABITS) ignition system may exhibit an engine miss and/or poor driveability symptoms.

Cause
The (ABITS) cap and rotor may exhibit carbon tracking, cracking, or water intrusion which can cause an engine miss and/or poor driveability symptoms.

Correction
Perform strategy-based diagnosis. If it is determined that the ABITS cap and/or rotor is the source of the concern, then a service kit may be now implemented instead of a complete ABITS assembly.
Parts Information
There are two (2) variations of Opti-Spark Distributors. It will be mandatory to identify which type is to be serviced for proper parts procurement.
graphic
1. Opti-Spark Distributor II (Pin Drive - WITH positive vent system) can be identified by the intake manifold vacuum hose connection (3), air intake duct hose connection (4), or non-splined pin drive (1). Refer to Figure 1.

graphic

Opti-Spark Distributor I (Splined Drive - WITHOUT positive vent system) can be identified by the splined pin drive (1), or the lack of intake manifold vacuum hose connection and air intake duct hose connection. Refer to Figure 2.

Important :it is necessary to use tool J 39997 (or equivalent) for the Distributor Cap Screws and tool J 39998 (or equivalent) for the Rotor Screws. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

I did not do the fluid pressure test yet. This evening I used some starting fluid first. Went into the car and it almost started. A lot of mis-fires. Even flame came out of the throttle body. I tried several times but no solid starting. If I held the gas peddle down partially it seem to want to start better that way. Could the car be out of time?

Uneducated opinion is optispark, like if your distributer was bad on older car. If starter fluid does not do it, must be ignition IMO.

check out the fuel system, but don't rule out the ignition coil or module, my 93 acted much the same way. turned out I had a weak coil.

I am a novice at this. How do I...

1 test fuel pressure.
2 test for weak coil.
3 test for weak ignition module.

Thanks for understanding.

On your fuel pressure regulator I think on yours it is a pod looking thing back side top left on the engine.
