Default 91 turn signal stalk floppy

Hello all. Long story short I was give a 91 Corvette for my 30th birthday a few weeks ago. It's in decent shape but hasn't been driven for two years so the last month I have been slowly getting it road worthy again.

One problem I am trying to fix is the turn signal/headlight dimmer/wiper stalk is floppy. I researched and found the likely cause is a broken piece of plastic in the steering column. I used a guide I found here to remove the column and replaced both the turn signal switch and the wiper switch. But the stalk is still floppy. It doesn't click the turn signals or the high/low beams.

I think I am missing a piece or two. Should there be a spring or something? Also how does the metal rod that appears to actuate the high/low beams attach to the switch.

Thanks for your help.

I have run into a snag during reassembly. I have attached two photos to help illustrate the problem with the turn signal switch.

The original turn signal switch has two mounting points for the bracket that goes over to the multifunction switch. The new turn signal switch I received only has one, the bracket flops around and the switch is not able to work correctly.

I have an email into the vendor i purchased the switch from but have not heard back from them yet. Can anyone shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

Switch is obviously WRONG - from who and what part number did you buy?

I lesson maybe to be learned - SHOP LOCAL !!!!

You installed the "newer" and THEN realized there was the "flop"?

The piece that the multifunction lever goes into had a small piece broken off. From my research it seemed to be a common problem. So while I ordered that I put anything else I might need in the same order to save my self from having to open this thing back up.

here is a link to the part I ordered. I have a 91.
http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1989-1996.html

I also noticed a the old wiring harness has a ground while while the new part does not.

There might have been a piece of tape with a number on it wrapped around the harness of the switch you received. You could maybe ID it from that information BUT regardless it's incorrect. The Eckler price is certainly attractive but I would think it needs a "hands on" to identify the packaging as being correct. Supply them your snapshot and it appears the image they display is also correct. I wouldn't think they could make the same mistake twice. Ask for some expedited shipping to compensate you for the "down time".

Not much to report. The vender has not been very helpful. Just told me to return the parts but offered no solution to the problem.

Someone out there must be able to shed some light on this.

They "Ecklers" sent you the wrong part. They either have a correct part in another box OR they have a very large order from "whoever/wherever" that is all the wrong merchandise. It's as simple as that.

Go to maybe eBay or Corvette Central and "search" 1995974 for a correct part and return what you've got to Ecklers - I'd maybe try to contact them one more time and tell them you're a regular poster on the CF and you'd like to be able to post back to the CF that they've been quite helpful in resolving the issue.

I think I have solved the problem. Now I just need to get the correct part.

It appears I received a replacement for part #1995974. But what I really needed was part #D9001. The Ecklers website has both part numbers listed as replacements. I googled both part numbers and have found multiple images of #1995974 that appear just like what I received (One mounting hole) and the photos of #D9001 have two mounting holes.

Now to get the incorrect part returned and order (hopefully) the right one.

This is from the Amazon web-site.
GM #1995974 and Delco #D9001 are the same part.

That link shows D9001. In the photo it looks like it has both mounting holes. It looks like autozone sells the version I need so I plan to order it from them and hope for the best

In this case it's a good idea to buy local.

Click on the link below and verify if your cracked turn signal assembly wasn't caused by a cracked switch assembly pivot.

Here's a picture of what the part looks like.
GM #26015119 Shop around for the best price if it's the part you need.

I have already replaced that piece. It was broken. I'm trying to avoid having to take this thing apart again so I am replacing any components I can.

Just ordered this. The picture looks the correct piece.

The customer service from Ecklers has been pretty terrible. And it seems I have to pay to ship the wrong part back to them and pay a restocking fee.

It seems to me that don't care about messing up orders. I tend to get extra parts the don't fit my car. While not a big deal for me I would hate to be the one that ordered it, and never got it.

I bought a switch for a 1995 Caprice and it's the same for the Vette. The Delco 9001 is the right part. O'reilly's, Autozone, Advance, etc usually have them in stock. They also carry a Chinese (different Chinese) part that is about half the price and looks virtually the same.

I hope the folks over at Ecklers are seeing this. I will think twice about ordering from them. This is bull crap. Clearly not the OP's fault.

I sent the parts back today. They should get there Thursday. I'll keep everyone posted on the refund and when the new part arrives.

I'm surprised that Eckler hasn't responded here to the post. They do have a user ID and I've seen someone respond a couple times in threads. Just today in a thread regarding parts and shipping to AU. I'd maybe PM the user ID and see what happens. I don't buy from them but I understand how someone could make them a a potential supplier IF service were maybe the "selling point".
