Default Need help in finding out type of diode for ABS

Does anyone know what kind, type, ohms, etc this diode is?

Thanks,

George

I would go with a 1N4004. 1 amp at 400 volts should do it.

To make the replacement job easier, just cut the existing wires close to the body of the old diode, wrap the wires of the new diode around these old wires, then solder the new diode to the old wires. Be sure the polarity of the new diode matches the old diode. Protect the new diode with some electrical tape.

I agree with the 1N4001 thru 4004 (Radio Shack if you can find one still open), but make sure it's bad first. Use a cheap multimeter on the lowest ohm setting. It should conduct in one direction and not in the other. When they fail they short.
If the meter has a diode/transistor setting it should measure .6V in one direction and 0V in the other.

The meter will not put out enough current on the ohms range to forward bias the diode so you can measure it. Use the diode test setting (a picture of a diode symbol).

It won't measure 0 volts. It will show 0L (or similar) for open. The diode is essentially open when it is reverse biased (unless it's bad).

Actually most of the low end meters will forward bias the diode.

Correct, typo on my part.
