Help!! Having baby and want to take the lil one with me. Is there any way to disable or put a switch on the passenger airbag?

If your manual lists a fuse you could simply pull that fuse.

If so, try it to see if it throws a code or brings on a light.

Pulling the fuse sets the airbag light and probably disables both airbags.
Turning off the passanger bag is supposed to be a dealer required option,
but no dealer I've talked to would touch it.

The computer needs to "see" both air bags. I think if you used a dpdt switch and found the resistance of the air bag, you might be able to trick it.

My Haynes manual has instructions for disarming the SIR systems to work around the air bags safely but doesn't give much wiring details.

Perhaps the GM Shop Manual for your year has more details.

You certainly can. The following company will supply a switch and instructions, or they will direct you to a local installer that will. Cost $150 to $300.

BUT... to be legal, you have to fill out, send in, and receive the approved form listed here:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/airbags/

The NHTSA site also has some "other data" to peruse.

I am still awaiting my reply (faxed in ~ 3 weeks ago) so I cannot attest to the difficulty.

I met a guy not too long ago who disables air bags for a living. I think it was some kind of franchise operation. Maybe check your phone book and see if there's one near you. I don't remember what it was called though.
