Replacing Fuel Pump Question on '86. This is carzy....long!!
Just curious how much work this is?
As I read a few of my manuals....Chilton's and Haynes I find 2 totally different ways of going about this??
Chilton's Removal talks about removing the tank to get at the pump??? wth???
Haynes Removal just shows how to remove the pump from under the fuel door?

Re: Replacing Fuel Pump Question on '86. This is carzy....long!! (Mr. Magoo)
MrMagoo,
It really is an easy job to accomplish on our '86's.
You may want to check out my post on this very subject, titled: 150K...has my stock '86 Fuel Pump seen better days?
The date was 8/1/2002.
Here is the proceedure:
Remove your Fuel Pump Fuse.
Sit in car, and crank the motor over for about 15 seconds. This will help prevent you from getting fuel all over the place when you disconnect the lines.
Disconnect your negative battery cable.
Remove gas door.
Remove gas overflow rubber liner.
Disconnect the fuel lines.
Remove the 10 screws that securrs the fuel pump.
Lift pump up and out.
Good Luck!!
John

Cool that's kind of what I thought, quick and easy.
If any of you have a Chilton's manual look at how they go about removing the pump!
I feel bad for any guy or girl that needs this job done by some rip-off mechanic!! All the Mechanic has to do is show them the Chilton's manual and lie about how they had to remove the tank to get at the pump.
