Default Optima red top not fits

Hi all

Yesterday my battery Duracell died. Purchased new optima red top, the only battery available for corvette here in italy. Cery expensive

unfortunately it won't go in battery holder... To width about 1/2" any suggestion?

I've git this one, may is not the right one?

You might try a GRP 75 battery. Generally with a GRP 75 RED TOP there's an issue with the top post clearance but I understand that they have made some changes and it might do well I'll try to find the actual spec. but the GRP 78 is certainly a "NO GO".

I realize that your choices are very limited BUT a group 75 battery is very popular with many, many GM products and you may be able to do something other than the Optima in the GRP 75. I would try if you can.

Do not cut anything on the battery in an attempt to make the top clear the brace. If you must, remove the brace and have the brace modified to clear. If you do this there should be no issues with what I believe they call a D75/25 now.

Why wouldn't cut anything on battery, and to modify instead the brace? Battery is sostitutable, car brace no...

I have a red top optima in my 86, without any issues. I don't know if the battery tray has changed over the years.

If you have not trimmed the + top post it might be interesting to have you measure the clearance and actually confirm the part # of the battery you have installed. I mentioned I thought they had a part# change but wasn't able to confirm anything other than just a reference # changed

I believe the OP mentioned finding an Excide product and if he has most of the Excide product line is "first class" product. I believe he'll likely post back.

Default Optima

I took a few pictures. The positive has plenty of clearance, the negative is a little close. I put a couple of plastic covers over the aftermarket terminals.

It's unusual to be able to use a GRP 78 battery but you seem to have. It would seem likely that the tray would have required some modification but you mention not. Interesting.

No modifications at all. I even used the stock screw down clamp.

First of all i've noticed that your ASR diapraghm bracket is on its top....
My car instead Have it on the low edge,

Also i've tried to put in a grp 78 ( pic down here), nor yet go in battery tray...

Where did you fit cables on top terminals or front?

I used the side terminals. The top ones are being used for my stereo. The battery fits fine in my battery tray as you can see. Maybe the trays differ over the years. I have a 86 coupe.

Sure, it is a no sense to put a little battery tray, but it is...

For the tray replacement that you have mentioned... possible but don't know which part is installed on your car

I would suggest you to connect your stereo negative cable on a frame ground point instead of battery negative terminal

I used an Optima in my 91 and yes it did require the CC support bracket to be slightly trimmed to clear the top post as WVZR-1 stated. It is my understanding you void any warranty if you trim the posts.

Part # 8022-091

My negative wire is on the driver's seat bolt. No noise at all. The wire on the top negative post is fake. I just wanted it to look even. As for the battery tray, it is stock like I said.
