Default 87 no crank condition

It had been about a week since I last started it, went to move it, it won't crank. Tried my battery jump box, no Crank. Remove battery and installed another, no crank. I get the dash lite up, headlights will come on, stereo on, windows roll up and down, no heater, or a/c, no crank. have over 12 volts to the starter. When i turn the key to start, the security light flashs, tried 2 differnt keys, same thing.

It must be a VATS problem

Pull the error codes from the ECM. VATS error code is 46. If you don't have that one then the problem is not VATS related.

The security light has nothing to do with starting. It flashes if the door is open and the theft deterrent system is not armed.

You can try jumping the two heavy wire on starter inhibit relay behind the info panel. Either the relay is bad, or the VATS is not turning it on. The one in my '87 went bad and drove me crazy with intermittent no crank issues.

if you have good connection (both sides Positive & Neg.) to the starter from the battery, and when the key is turned the crank wire gets power, low tech test for a bad starter/relay With key turned SMACK STARTER WITH A HAMMER if it starts problem found.

Yep, that's what I did next, and it started, but won't start without the relay bypassed. Did I have 2 problems? These old cars are fun aren't they?
