Default Motor is stuck??

So I purchased a 1989 6 spd Corvette. Has not run in 10 years. I could not turn the engine with a breaker bar on the damper pulley.
I am thinking of squirting oil in the cylinders for a couple of days and then trying again.
In neutral the engine should rotate correct, am I missing something?

Thank you all
Joe

I did that to a 427 in 1979. And you are correct. About three days later it spun, by hand
Just checking and looking for an updated solution.

Thank you,

None that I'm aware of. Oil/sitting is typically the trick. Once it moves a little, I go back and forth...gently. You're basically asking the rings to scrape rust off the bore. I've had great results though, on everything from a 1922, 2hp Stover hit 'n miss, to modern V8's.

You may want to remove the serp belt just to be certain it's not an accessory that has seized.

Hello

I have about a quart of Marvel in the engine cylinders. Motor wil not budge. I am affraid to pull on the damper pulley nut too hard. Does anyone have any idea as to how hard I can pull on it without shearing it off. I have a two foot 1/2 drive breaker bar on the nut.
I was thinking of removing the valve covers and loosening the rocker arms. Maybe that will make it easier to move. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you

Do you know if it was locked up ten years ago? Or had a bad head gasket then and sat with water in it? Might have to pull the head and have a look see.

Great question. the owner indicated the car was running and he took it off the road. The oil looks good. And the plugs looked good, almost new. I will give him a call. I just hate to pull the heads. That starts the whole engine rebuilding process. I was hoping to wait until next year to do that.

Thank you

Well wait a bit longer and put some more in and let it sit. You did put it in neutral. And the plugs àre out.

Or make sure the plugs are out and put it in gear and give it a little tug. Or put the back wheels on ramps and let it sit with a little down force.

Yes I do believe it is in neutral. Good thought. I was thinking of giving it another 2 days before I panic. The ramps idea is a good one. Maybe worth a try. A friend of mine suggested me on the damper pulley and him on the fly wheel.
Put waiting is not a bad idea. I just today filled the cylinders with marvel. Up to know I just sprayed some into the spark plug holes.

Thank you

You need to let the oil sit for 3-4 days or more and let it work.

Yeah, I think that you are correct. I had some oil in it. But, now I have the cylinders filled. So I am hoping that on Sunday I can get some movement. Today I spent three hours soldering the wires the mice/squirrels ate. So there is a lot to do. To prep that car. Including getting the old gas out.

thank you all again.

I can't wait to see if the oil frees this up. There is a youtube channel coldwarmotors they take cars sitting for 50 years and just get them running again like this.

I am so glad that this entertains you, lol. I spoke to the former owner. He was very disappointed the motor is frozen. I think the marvel will work.

drain the old oil; replace the pan plug, and fill the whole durn crankcase to the very top with automatic transmission fluid or diesel oil; let it sit, then, with the transmission in 6th gear start rocking the whole car back and forth; that should do it. Oh, once you do get the engine running with fresh oil in it, expect "some smoke" on initial start up.

This sounds like a good idea. Do we know how much oil will fill a crank case to the top. The old oil is clean.
But this sounds like a good plan. Thank you

The longer you soak it the better don't want to snap a ring.

clean old oil plus one or two gallons diesel should do it; this from an old mechanic who knew ...and used...every trick in the book.
