Default Serpentine Belt Wear

I recently found the inner edge of the belt worn down to almost missing a rib. It's a 96 with 112k miles and I don't know the history. I suspected misalignment. I figured the edge of a pulley might have the finish worn off but couldn't find anything. I recently changed the alternator so I compared the belt placement from the alternator to the idler pulley vs my 18k mile 95 Vette and the belts look identical. Has anyone experience this type of wear on the belt? Also any tips to check the alignment would be very helpful. I wondering if the pulley on the replacement alternator might be the issue. It came pre-installed on the alternator.

Many thanks,

Andy

The 96 alone had a different (slightly longer) balancer hub, if the shorter one got swapped in from an earlier year that's one thing that would cause a slight misalignment like that and maybe chop off one rib, just one possibility

Had a severe issue with this and a tensioner change fixed it.

Same here, when the tensioner wears the outer part and pulley will be on a angle. That allows the edge of the pulley to nick the belt.

you can see this by eye, have a look at the pulley outer edges.
the should all line up evenly.
