Default Interior lighting.

Hello, I am a happy owner of a 96' Collector's Edition CUPE.
I live in the far north of Sweden in the town called Luleċ.

I have a little problem with the interior light that not turns on when I open the door.
I understand that it should only be switched on when it is dark.
If I manually turned on by the lever it´s light up all the lights in the cabin.
Is there anyone who can tell me where I should start troubleshooting? Thanks in advance.

Same problem I have with my 86 but I know what's wrong but haven't found it.
There's an interior light delay relay that's in the dash above the hush panel on the passenger side of the car. If the doors are left open an extended period of time I've heard it can damage or burn out that relay. I've also read that if you connect the white wires leading to the relay and pull the relay, it will cause the lights go on and off when the doors are opened but there's no delay on closing the doors.

I've done a lot of groping and searching with a mirror and light but so far have not located that relay so it's a winter project.

Hope that helps.

Hello, Many thanks, that's very helpful for me.
Do you know how the relay looks like? I have already ripped everything out on the passenger side to find a water leak so it is quite open to locate the relay ...

if your water leak is antifreeze heater core. if water there are three drains two drain hoses one behind the battery one in the center and one hole above the precat on the pass side clean all.
for you lights I would look at the door switches stuck or bad. you can take out one screw and loosen the other then turn the switch and put the one screw back and remove the other so you don't loose the back plate.

and the lights will come on with the door open dark or not.

The water leak I fixed.
I'll try the door switch, however the warning light on the panel seems work when the door is open.
Thanks for the help.
