Default 1990 Service ABS light

hello all. Took the Vette out this morning for a drive, Service ABS light came on. I did notice when I rolled down the drive I didn't here the usual "whirl" self test of the ABS system. ABS light is on solidly no flashing, no self test as stated. The car drove fine with no noticeable problems.

When I got home I got out my trusty Sunpro CP9001 OBD1 scanner that does both engine and ABS codes. ABS light never flashed and no codes stored? I tried to reset the ABS system, but light wouldn't go off or even flash? Can someone please point me in the right direction to repair this? Car has 30,000 original miles.

Thanks

I'm NOT familiar with your scanner but if you have the FSM you can do nearly all ABS faults using the ALDL. There are a few exceptions.

Check the FSM 5E1-2

Maybe clear and recheck using the FSM procedures. I believe that even in '90 a Tech1 requires appropriate hardware. The FSM mentions that multiple faults might cause the "STEADY ON" - solenoid and pump faults might do the same.

SEE THE FSM - Do you have the FSM? If you need one I likely have both paper and a .pdf for sale.

Did you do the appropriate fuse checks?

Thanks for answering WVZR-1. I have checked the fuses, all seemed well there. I do not have the factory service manual, I guess now is the time to invest in them? Haven't had a need for them as the car as been perfect since new. Any suggestions on where to purchase the books?

Thanks again!

Thanks antfarmer, I did check the master cylinder, brake fluid is where it's supposed to be. I did find a couple of 90 FSM on ebay, one listing was just one book and another listing was for 2 books, vol. 1 & vol. 2 which one is the correct one? is there a difference?

Thanks
