1994 valve covers too short.
I installed Lunati 1.6 full roller rockers with my new cam. The stock valve covers won't clear the rocker adjustment nuts. I need 1 5/8" minimum. I know some have said to cut the fins, or baffles or whatever they're called out of the stock covers. According to my measurements it might barely clear if I do that. I'm not sure I want to bother. Does anyone have any suggestions of brand or vendors for aftermarket tall valve covers. In my searches I find listed "tall" valve covers as 1/4" taller than stock and I'm not sure that will be enough if they also have those baffles in them.
Suggestions? Thanks Gary

Try cutting off the tabs, I'm almost certain they will work. Taller valve covers will hit your alternator. Don't know how you would double up the gaskets on composite valve covers.

They are oil drip tabs. Supposed to catch the oil splashed up thru the push rods and drip back down on the stock rockers. No harm if you remove them and you do have to remove them.
As far as a taller gasket, these covers have a gasket that fits in the groove in the cover and a taller gasket is not made. You would have to see if a standard gasket would fit and use a sealant against the VC itself.
I installed 1.6 RR on my 95, but the cam is stock and no clearance issues. I am guessing that the clearance is with the exhaust rockers. If you can't find a taller cover or a gasket to raise the cover, you can actually sand a 45 degree angle on the end of the rocker to give it clearance. I did that with my 85 using stock covers and a LPE74211 cam with a .534 lift on the exhaust. You don't have to take off much, perhaps 1/8". If you do sand the ends, be sure to wrap the whole rocker in masking tape so you don't get any aluminum dust into the bearings.

I'm running Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers with longer ARP 7/16 studs, 605/622 lift, stock valve covers (tabs removed) and stock gaskets with no interference issues.

I bought a Dremel today. I cut the tabs off, and the valve covers fit fine. Thanks for all the answers. I was just reluctant to cut the covers up. How did I ever get along without a Dremel tool?
