Default 6l40 Oil pan seal ?

So my cork pan gasket is leaking oil again. This is a new gasket from my recent RPM build i.e. maybe 200 miles on it. I re-torqued the bolts and still leaks. The last time they did some valve body work that gasket leaked also. Is there a better gasket available ? I don't really want to use silicone.

I'm certain you meant 4l60~ cork is a gasket from decades ago. not sure why that material is used today. it breaks down fairly quick. you could purchase good Gasket material in roll form. trace out the pattern & make your own.
yes, there are better gaskets available to purchase.

this ebay pic. is for reference. Only

here is a known brand. Mr. Gasket.

Is this the OE "tin pan" or have you replaced it with something "other than" the OE?

Throw that cork crap away and get a real gasket .... no wonder it leaks.

I love the mild approach. But, so true!

Yes 4l60. I am daryllicktic sometimes. Why the hell would RPM use old tech on a performance build is behond me,
And yes it is the original pan. I don't want to go deeper because of clearance issues. Also I am little leary of aluminum if I did bottom out pan. Vette is lowered ablmost 2" all around. Thanks for the replies.

Buy the newer construction gasket and "renew" all of your mounting position bores. You should be able to "dimple" them somewhat to allow very good retention to the pan rails. If not buy a new "tin pan". OE/GM might be very inexpensive and maybe while you've got the pan "in hand" add a drain function to it.

I don't actually believe that the "cork" (your reference) is entirely to blame. An OE pan is good for maybe 3 - 4 changes if everyone that did them paid attention to the bolt torques. One guy doesn't and you've got what you've got now. The newer gasket construction ain't a "magic fix". Helps yes BUT magic NO!

Cork gaskets were/are used on pans with flat rails or surface. The later hard gasket doesn't always seal well on them. The raised rib design pan rails which is more common today is designed for harder gasket and will cut cork gasket if bolts are over torqued. Today many of the trans pan gaskets are rubber like and designed to be re-used.

I like the Farpak gaskets. Recommended by Pro-Built Automatics. I have used these gaskets when they were soaked with ATF and they still didn't leak.
