I'm having the same problem with the k&n's was driving me crazy they all leaked. Switched to a different brand no more leaks.

When I last encountered a stubborn oil filter, I used a muffler gun and cut off tool.

Just a few taps on the base and she spun right off.

Kind of like the one I just bought on ebay. I haven't used it yet, but last year when I changed mine on my '91 it took a while to break it loose.

When I ran into the super stuck one on my 87 I tried a set of pliers like that, didn't work.

Next I tried these and the chain thing did nothing but chew on the filter some while the jaws dented the filter and then the fingers bent on the jaws :

This type is what finally worked but the filter was so mangled when it let go finally you couldn't even tell it was a filter anymore. I have that filter somewhere and will try to find it to show the effects

Anyways THIS is what you need to remove any oil filter it seems.

crowz, Where did you buy it. I'm tired of the band strap with a handle.

FWIW, this is what i currently use for filter removal, and for me, it seems to work just fine. I might add, that I usually only remove filters that I've installed, and I only hand tighten per manufacturers instructions. pretty sure problems arise from improper installation - over tightening and not pre-lubing the rubber gasket. everyone will have their own favorite tool and procedure, so what ever works for you,

Ive never really had an issue with one I installed. The problems I run into are what a previous owner had done or I get stuck helping a friend remove one they cant get off.
