Default EGR Valve bolt removal

Hello all,

1987 Corvette coupe auto., 59000 miles. I tore into my EGR value replacement and now that everything is out of the way.... I cant access the EGR bolt closest to the drivers side.I cant get to it with a wrench or a socket. Is there a special tool or does anyone have any tips or secrets on removing this bolt?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

I believe I heated up and bent the open end of a wrench for that. There is a limited turn radius but its doable.

Default SOLVED...and another issue

Just to pass on that an adjustable ratchet wrench from the passenger side was the answer. Came off in three seconds. This uncovered another issue. Some of the apparently original EGR gasket has become a part of the manifold and I cant get it off for anything. I tried parts cleaner, Miratic Acid, a torch, a wire wheel, and elbow grease. On my second day and it isn't coming off. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go from here? It looks like hard plastic that has melted onto the manifold.

Thanks again,

Kevin

Default Done...

I kept at it with the muratc acid and scrapper and finally got it off well enough that a wire brush finished the job.

Thanks for all of the help.

Default What is this device..

Hello all,
Im putting my Vette back together and have a question before I proceed. There is a small box under the plenum that houses a few vacumn hoses and a electrical plug that comes from the injector bank. At the front of the box is a port that looks like it at one time housed a line, possibly another vacumm hose. Can anyone tell me what connects to this port and if it needs to be connected or plugged. I have enclosed a picture. Thanks for any help..I dont want to proceed in case I have to address it. Wont reach it easily if back together.

Kevin
