Default 1994 LT1 Replacing Valve Cover Gaskets Help

Using Fel-Pro rubber gaskets. Do they need any sealant or do they go on dry? Passenger side looks relatively easy, but the driver side looks like I need to remove some stuff. No Factory Service Manual yet, what are the torque specs for the valve cover bolts?

tighten until the valve cover it mates with the gasket. put ur finger along side the valve cover and head. when you feel the valve cover compress just a tad, stop. ur gasket won`t be fully compressed and you might stop a future leak by re-tightening. a fel-pro cork gasket with a thin strip of metal sandwiched in between is my choice. rubber is the last choice. no sealant.

Fel-Pro (blue) rubber gaskets go on dry. With my 1st set, I had seepage from the cover bolt gaskets, so I used some RTV around the bolt holes before putting the bolt hole gaskets on when I did them again earlier this year. I think the torque spec was 29 ft / lbs, but I don't have a service manual in front of me right now.

Yes. On drivers side, as I recall, the serpentine comes off, and the alternator bracket must be removed. Take a photo so you know hopw it goes back on.

Default torque

My 1996 Corvette service manual has 106 inch pounds for the rocker arm cover (valve cover). It is not foot pounds of torque.
For my 1985 valve covers I believe it is 50 inch pounds.

OK, driver’s side works. The passenger side valve cover has an asbestos covered st./st. tube running from the back of the intake manifold to the top of the passenger side exhaust manifold. It runs around the rear lip of the valve cover. It needs to be un-bolted from one or the other in order to lift the cover high enough to clear the rockers. The bolts at the back of the intake manifold are inaccessible. The exhaust manifold connection is via a brass fastener holding the tube into the top of the manifold. (TIGHTLY) It appears to be a 7/8 nut and there is no way to get a good grip on it with the tools I have. Any suggestions other than a good mechanic?

94 LT1 should be composite VC's if so it's not a gasket really. it is more like an O-ring that fits tightly in groove in VC. NO goop of any kind needed. and center tork head screws will bottom out before over tightening. yest Alt comes of. pretty simple job even for novice.
