Default Help! How bad is this???

92 lt1. I was trying to remove the water pump at it turns out the coupler was seized and I could not get the pump out. Long story short, this:

Shaft broke... so that seemed like a good stopping point. What will need to be done? Does this bolt to the cam? I have access to FSM but I'm going to stop for tonight. I know this is really bad. Just looking for help, thanks in advance

I did see that the water pump drive gear is driven by the cam gear... I think I knew that but it's pushing 2am and I'm a bit groggy. Has anyone dealt with this or have advice? Thanks

That sucks, it's behind the timing cover?

I've never touched an LT1, but from what I can recall from owning a C4; getting the balancer off in the car is a PITA because of the cross bar in the front.

Good luck.

Yeah I found the picture of the assembly in the FSM. Will have to removing timing cover, chain, then I believe a bearing is pressed into the block. Can't find a part number...

I did some quick searching and can't find one at the moment. Sounds like the perfect excuse to upgrade to an electric water pump instead of tearing apart the front of the motor.

Why would you remove the timing cover?

because he broke the shaft off of the water pump drive. That is the piece that the couple slide onto to connect and drive the water pump.

In order to replace the part that is broken you have to remove the timing cover.

GEAR CIRC PUMP DRIVE LT-1 GM# 10219554 (INDMAR P/N S551239) (#IND551239)

Everything I search either comes up discontinued or shows the coupler instead of the gear drive.

Really my mind must be slipping. I thought it was just a little splined coupling like on the opti.

This is what it should look like. Compare this picture to the OP's picture.

I believe you my mind is not what it used to be. Could he just put a electric pump on? and replace the seal.

Sorry I just noticed you already came up with this.

An electric water pump is not a great idea for a street car.
