Default Scanner Problems

Acquired a scanner as advised on this thread. Hooked it up as advised, ran thru the diagnostic's as it should, then it said waiting for data, it sat for approximately 15 minutes with out change. Took the scanner back to the person I borrowed it from and had him hook it up, same result. What will cause this? Broken wire, bad ECU, help please. Thanks Mike

You should state what your working on and brand and model of scanner. Wiring concern between aldl and ecm. damaged terminal in aldl (sometimes terminal gets "spread" from being probed with large object.), power and ground circuits to ECM, or ECM. On some cars with shared data lines or car with serial data between modules one of the other modules can fail causing no data from good module. There can be a compatibility issue with scanner and you car if scanner will work on similar car.

My scanner will refuse to read occasionally, I'd just disconnect and redo it.

Check fuses if it persists.
