Default Roof Silicon-ed on, Need a new roof, Any Advice?

Original Post: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1593580786

Hey guys,

So if you read my first post, you know I just bought my first C4 (AMAZING CAR!)

But there's one problem, and its a big one to me. The previous owner dropped the roof once or twice and now the glass has two big cracks (Water comes through) and instead of buying a new roof, he filled them with cheap filling and caulked the roof on (It is now non- remove-able)

I really want to buy a new roof (Glass preferred, but whatever is more economical) and I want to re-do the seals, but, after looking around I can't find one for less than 600$. Have any of you guys found any good deals online? Anybody selling one? Please let me know!!

Thanks again everyone!

Replace the seals and fill and smooth the top out and get a 50 buck piece of vinyl on the top till you find a new one. The for sale section here or ebay.

What a mess! Better save up for new weatherstrip also because you'll probably destroy the stuff on the car getting the roof off.

I have an 87 roof in good shape I'd sell, I'm a couple hours from you, wouldn't want to ship it.

Wow, definitely goes in that, "wtf were they thinking" category.

The weather strip is toast, obviously. Address that first and foremost, of course.

As far as the top, the pics didn't clearly show the cracks so it's hard to say. One thing you can do in the short term, until you find a replacement, is to seal the cracks with some type of filler that will adhere to acrylic, then coat the top with a few layers of something like plasti-dip or other vinyl coating. This should stop the water intrusion for the short term. But you gotta get that weather strip replaced. That's gonna be a very fun and educational project...(attempt to put a positive spin on it)
