Tremec T-56 tail extension housing
Hi,
some time ago I found a tremec tail housing for the Corvette C4.
Unfortunately the item is gone now and all my effort with google doesn't give any results anymore.
Does anyone know anything about a tail housing for a T-56 matching a C4?
Thanks
Thomas

You'll have to do a search but as my memory serves me right the out fit I bought one from was in the Cleveland Ohio area. Do a forum search on a T-56 Swap you should find it there. It bolted right on the T-56. If you cant find one let me know a I'll dig through old files and find the invoice..

I also was searching the forum now and really doubt my memmory now.
Did you buy a tail housing, or a C-Beam adapter?
I can't find any hint about a tail housing, even I was pretty sure I've seen one at the marketplace some month ago.
I also wrote to shiftsst but I've got only little hope.

anyone with some scrap pieces and a welder can fab one up pretty easy dont let that stop you. THey are an overall good trans, plenty of them out there and more parts available than ever.
Do keep a spare around just in case!

Try American Power train. http://americanpowertrain.com/ They sell tremec conversions for all cars. I believe they call it "perfect fit" conversions. Probably have something to relocate the shifter too, unless you don't have that problem. h

I'm sorry, if this missunderstanding is coming from my bad english. I'm from germany.
That's not the point. I know that one can built an Adapter, but I was writing about an tail housing. I was pretty sure I've seen one about a year ago, but I must be mistaken.
So I guess I will built an adapter....
Thanks

Are you talking about an adapter or the c-beam bolting up to the tranny? Tremec has replacement tranny's for the C4 that bolt in. I know that because my 86 came with a TR3550 in it when I bought it.

I guess I meant, I have never seen a vette with a tremec from the factory. But now that you say that, the Camaro, and Firebird both came with the 5 speed tremec, so maybe a guy could use a tailshaft from one of those? They had Cbeams. h

- The C-beam is a structural brace that takes the place of a conventional transmission crossmember. It ties the transmission rigidly to the rear differential housing, and has no bushings at either end. It is not intended to move vertically or laterally, and resists torsion.
- A torque arm is a suspension link that functions to constrain the axle housing from rotating around the wheel axis, and to define anti-squat and anti-dive. It is intended to swing vertically and laterally at the axle end, and does not resist torsion. On this design, the tailshaft must have a conventional crossmember, which locates both the transmission and the torque arm.
