Default best replacement cat

I have a 96 LT1 auto that needs cats replaced. Through searches I have gathered that I can't delete cats without reprogramming. Correct me if I am wrong. What would be considered the best replacement? Which one is considered the least restrictive? Which one would be the best buy for the money? I am going to put Allens chambered exhaust on at the same time if that will make a difference.

THANKS for input

Summit Racing carries lots of replacement cats, from universal to performance ones. Fit and flow would be a major concern, if it was me, I would start by giving them a call as the technical resources there have access to the specs of the cats they sell.

Here is a search (you can search by year/make/model) of cats for a '96 (like I have).

Random Tech has a great hi flow cat; they are pricey but built well.

You don't need to reprogram the pcm if you delete the cats.
Either have a shop weld in a o2 bung or just use o2 simulators

THIS IS NOT ADVICE, it's just commentary on what's been done in the past. Original cats with the catalyst honeycomb blown out...now essentially an empty can... were left in place eliminating mods to the exhaust system, decreasing backpressure, allowing ready replacement with functional oem style cats should the need arise, and, no pcm problems.
