Default Did I Fry my CCM?

The previous owner of my '91 added an amp and speakers\sub to the car. When I purchase a used vehicle with a non stock stereo system and no paperwork showing who installed it I usually remove it and start fresh.

So I was following the wires from the amp to see where and what the rats nest of wires went to. I nudged amp a little and the power wire came off and arced on the metal amp housing. I forgot to undo the battery. I ended up removing or properly terminating the remaining wires to the mickey mouse system.

Upon starting the car and it will barely run and dies after a few seconds. It does show a sys code and check engine light. All other vehicle functions work.

I unplugged the battery to see if the computer would reset but that didn't work.

I will pull the codes shortly and add to this post.

The arc was very slight, could I have damaged the computer with something so minor?

Thoughts appreciated.

Update,

A code 41 appears, the car will run rough then die out.

41 is a bad memcal or cylinder select?

I tried removing and re installing the stock chip thinking not would reset but no change.

Need advice to move forward and repair.

Not trying to push away from the code 41 but it's possible you messed up your battery when it arced out. Computers do weird stuff with a bad battery.

Good point it! Sometimes I forget the basics.

I will swap it out and see what happens

Yes, check the fuses. I did an EDM swap a couple of months ago and the stereo wires lay on top of the fuse box wire- spaghetti.

If the car starts (we need a better description- runs for 1 second or 10 before it dies- this makes a big difference?), then dies it sounds like it could be something to do the engine not reading oil or fuel pressure and turns off as a fail safe.

Your ECM is probably good as the engine was not running but you probably messed up some fuses and/or switches as you ended up grounding parts of your system.

Clarification,

Fuses look good,battery checks out

All functions work such as interior lights, power mirrors etc.

The car will start roughly given a little throttle and will run. When off the throttle it stumbles and dies.

Are there any hidden fuse blocks, fusible links and hidden fuses that I can check?

What other ways could I reset ecm?

A 1991 Corvette shop manual could help:

Yes I'm buying the FSM tonight. I can only troubleshoot so much through posts.

Since the car will run given throttle but dies when off the throttle, I will check then starting sequences and testing procedures for the tps and aic.

I'm starting to think it did not fry the ecm, because all other features work and the car will run given throttle.

How did you determine the CODE 41?

I went into the diagnostics and read the codes.
