Default how long do codes stay stored and intermittent code 24

I had the light come on yesterday on the highway, but the next start up it was out again and hasn't done it since. I didn't check it because I had cleaned out the console so no paper clip.

Most likely its the intermittent code 24 I get because of my vss, it comes and goes with no apparent reason to it.

The code should be there. It will go away after a certain number of restarts if the problem does not return. For some reason, I think it goes away after 40 restarts. I have no idea why but thats the number I remember.

For some reason I expected that they must get cleared out at some time besides when the battery is disconnected.

And why this 24 is so completely random with the vss not connected at all.

I just checked my EPROM code and it says 50 restarts without new errors to enable reset of the error codes.

Do you have any idea why the code 24 I get is so random?

It is caused by an open or shorted VSS circuit. You might have an intermittent connection (like corroded contact in a connector) or an abraded wire intermittently touching ground.
