Default 1985 rear storage bins

Photo shows the storage I'm talking about.
so I've seen photos online of two storage bins behind the seats in the c4 Corvette. I don't appear to have them, but previous owner put carpet down in the back as part of restore. I'm wondering if he just covered them up, or if that's something not all c4s had. I wanted to get some info before I tear out the carpet in the back. I think that would be a great place to put something like an amp.

You can see the bins looking under the rear of the car. All C4s have them.

That is the correct carpet. Are you sure they don't open?

I don't think that is a photo of his car.

I wanted to know if they would be there before I went peeling up the carpet he put down.

I went ahead and pulled out the carpet, there is a hatch on one side and the other just has a MDF cover for the lid, no hinge or anything. I might have to buy another hatch or make something a little nicer. Trying to decide what I'm going to use them for-be the perfect place to conceal a small subwoofer and amp, but I'm not sure I'm going to do that with this car. Maybe eventually.

Any thoughts on how to use that space? This is a weekend driver for me so I don't really need the storage for long trips or anything.
