Default Cat temp

I have a 96 LT1 auto. I am having problems with it dying while driving. It will not start back up immediately but it will after it sits a little bit. It seems like the longer it sits the longer it will run after start up again. I have had several things replaced or cleaned but still have the problem. Fuel filter was bad and replaced it. I think I have it down to dirty fuel tank or cats. I will pull new fuel filter and see what's in it now. I have shot cats with a temp gun after warm up and got 303 on driver side and 175 on passenger side. Does anyone know if these temps are good or not? Is this much difference in temp between the two normal?

THANKS TO ALL

Cats get far hotter then that. What leads you to believe it's the cats?

Lets talk about the pink elephant in the room..
96 is an LT1, shuts down when hot and restarts after it cools - sounds like a potential Opti, ICM or Coil issue.

A friend was behind me the first time this happened. He said he could smell the cats. I had a ford pickup one time, don't even remember what year,( I know not apples for apples) and it did the same thing. I gutted the cat and never had another problem with it.

Symptoms are similar to a failing ignition control module.

If replacing, it is important to apply proper grease on backside of unit.
