The 84-88 C4's that came with a manual trans (the "4+3") used a Borg-Warner Super T-10 transmission that had an overdrive unit as part of the assembly. Starting in 1989, the manual trans Corvettes used a ZF 6-speed transmission.

You didn't mention the year of your car or whether or not it has an auto trans, but installing a manual trans in an auto trans car will take some effort. A "regular" Super T-10 would require lots of fabrication. If you have an early C4, then I would suggest looking for a 4+3 trans and do a trans swap (still takes some work and $$$). Otherwise consider just looking for a C4 with a manual already installed.

I am aware of the 4+3. I don't want the +3 part. I am looking for info on the installation of a Super T-10, not a B-W 4+3. My hope is that someone has the pics of the work needed to getting this transplant completed.

..... The hard part is what to do about the C-beam ... you could have an adapter made for the rear of the S-T10 ... Orrr , you could fab up some crossmembers for both the trans and the diff ... then you would still need to come up with a shifter that would work (possibly the 4+3 unit ?) .....

simple, don't use the +3 part. never hook it up for power or toggle it for a rare occasion.

I only use mine as a 5th gear.

This.

Another problem with installing a regular Super T-10 is dealing with a shifter. The OEM shifter mechanism for the 4+3 bolts to the body, not to the trans. So that would require some modifications and there may not be enough room in the tunnel for something like a Hurst shifter (or a GM one) to bolt to the trans tail shaft. Soo in addition to the fabricating necessary to get the C-Bean installed properly and modding the Super T-10 tailshaft, then you have to do some cutting on the trans tunnel to provide room for an aftermarket shifter.

The one downside to retain the 4+3 is that the OD unit controls the Reverse gear. If the OD goes out, so does Reverse.

You didn't mention what sort of HP/torque the engine will produce, but the 4+3 will easily handle around 400HP and 400-450 ft-lbs torque.
