Default 4+3 top end linkage maintainence while the interior is out??

hi guys 1986 4+3 that I am refurbishing you interior on. I have it gutted.

can I do any maintenance on these top end linkages of the transmission? Other than lubrication? Any tightening?

just because I am silly like this, I will pull that brace off and remove the rust re-spray it with rust oleum and put it back. Anything else I can do to this set of linkages?

I have the exact same year/combo. How the heck did you manage to get the **** off? I tried for a long time but it wouldnt give so i took the whole thing out as a unit.
Other than some light grease, not much else to do in there. If all the shim washers are tight and the holes are not rounded out you are good to go.
On mine, the rubber boot that goes around the linkage rods are torn so i am going to try to fix that. I didnt find a source for a replacement

hi bob. I used a screwdriver on both sides of that large block T shaped piece and slowly pryed up from both sides.

look at your pic, 3 linkage rods below, on top is a push rod for a cable that goes under dash. kinda looks like a tv cable.

2nd on the thanks to dog for the heads up on that wire.
I believe that cable is the shift lockout that prevents moving the shifter unless the key is on.
