Hissing Sound from Brake Pedal
It feels like I don't have power brakes any more! When I press on the brake pedal, I get this hissing sound. The sound remains for as long as I have the pedal depressed.
I took a look and can't see anything obvious but it looks like everything is tucked behind the floor boards. Brake fluid is full. I now have to press really hard to stop. I still stop just fine but it makes me feel uncomfortable. Any idea what's wrong?

Re: Hissing Sound from Brake Pedal (silver & red CE)
Thanks for the quick response. Great forum!
I am going to break out the shop manual now. Is this a do-it-yourself kind of fix? Where the heck is the booster located?

It's the great big plack pancake type thing that your master cylinder is mounted to. I've never done one on a vette, but yeah typically this is considered a do it yourself job.

 It's the big round tank right behind the brake master cylinder!

Back when I was a scrub  I fixed the crack with a piece of mailing tape, you know the kind that has tread through it. Worked for about 1 yr! :D I eventually changed it because it started collecting dirt and looked like crap. It cracked were the large vacuum like connects for the booster to the manifold.

It's a very easy job on a vette. Just get a few long extensions and a universal. There are 4 nuts under the dash that have to be removed. Other than that it's a straight forward job.
