335 tires on the rear of a C4?
I was searching the archives for info about wide rear tires on corvettes. It seems like there is lots of room in the rear wheel wells.
With a proper size rim, like an 11" or 12" wide, and 17" diameter, can a 315-335 rear tire fit in the rear fenders without rubbing? What aspect ratio gives you about the same diameter as stock? The Grand Sports with the 315 rear tires run the little flares I see. But is the inside of the fender lip modified at all? Or is that just an appearance piece on the outside of the fender...
Thanks.
Ken

315's, no clearance issues at all. Stock 92 wheels.

I have 315's on mine as well with the GS fender flares, there is no modification needed, if you use the flares you just have to either screw them in or tape them on...either way works.

I run 335 on the 11" rims. Not much clearance left on the inside fender. When hitting a big pot hole it will rub the inner fender a little. Also with the 335 installed, you will not be able to lower your car.

Go look in the ZR1 section, someone there has 335 all around for track use

I have 315's on my '95, and I like how they look. I haven't had any rubbing or clearance issues, but I am about to get the GS flares, because I'm tired of crap being sprayed all over the side of my car if I drive through a puddle.
If I could find a deal on some prepainted Admiral blue flares, I would buy them right now. Unfortunately dealing with buying them and dropping them off for paint hasn't quite fit into my schedule yet.

A 315/35-17 on an 11" rim using GS offset should not hit the wheelwell unless you have soft springs and are roadracing it. And with some negative camber .50-.75* it should be under the fender.
A 335/35-17 requires at least a 12" rim and will not fit under the stock fender. I got 3pc wheels with enough offset to put the inner tire 1/2" from the trailing arms/brackets; and I had to enlarge the inner wheelwell with a torch, and some wood blocks.
The GS flares attach to the outside of the fender lip and do not modify or raise it at all; just makes it wider to cover the tire. So if your tire is protruding and your springs are not stiff or your ride height is too low, you can hit the fender over bumps (especially while cornering).
Here's pics of my 335 rears on 12.5" rims; haven't put my flares on yet though. With 12" rims it would be slightly narrower...

I have 315s and I love them HOWEVER I have some marks on the inner fenderwells (backside) where they must rub once in a while but ya never know it when it does  :seeya

What offset are your 3-piece wheels?
