C4 Lt1, 1995 vs Porsche carrera 4,1995
Does anybody knows is stock C4, Lt1, 1995 faster than Porsche carrera 4, 1995 (0-60 mph,0-400m and max. speed)?

If you've ever seen a clutch-popping launch of a Carrera 4, you would not need to ask. Anyone that's witnessed Pro Solo competition will know the answer. Roger Johnson's C4 used to give up a FULL car-length on launch against the 2WD Carrera. They can launch under full throttle, like a Vette with slicks. Roger had to fight to get it back by the end of the course. No doubt the Carrera 4 produces brutal "slingshot-like" 0-40 acceleration for those who want whiplash or are willing to abuse their expensive hardware in a stoplight drag scenerio.

That should be quite a good race. Both should run the quarter mile about the same with good driving and both should have similar top speeds.
As mentioned, the Carrera 4's can be launched HARD with their 4wd systems, but, it is heavy and power sapping and hurts them once on the roll relative to a regular Carrera (RWD). Magazines of the day had nearly identical specs for the two so it should be a close race.
My guess is that the Porsche would get through the early part of the race quickest launching harder only to be slowly rolled in by the Vette and around the 1/4 mile marker the Vette would be on its way past reaching top speed (over 160, depending on the conditions). From a roll , my guess is the Vette would have an edge.
Hope that helps. :seeya

I raced a 911 (2000+ model, don't think it was a 4), he was all the way in front of me when we started, by the time I hit second I couldn't see his car, because it was behind me slightly. I thought they were faster 0-60, but not this one.

N/A 911s have never been quicker or faster than the Corvettes. The overall performance of the 2 has been neck to neck but the regular 911 porsches have never been able to top the regular vette. It's a great rivalry that's been going on for decades. Even the turbos compared to the ZR-1 at the time and the present 996 TTs to the Z06s now, they are still neck to neck.
Car and Driver time for the
02 996 TT is 3.9 0-60 12.3 1/4
02 Z06 0-60 4.0 and 1/4 12.4
(from memory) Motor trend times for the:
95 C-2 993 5.7 0-60 and 14.0 1/4
95 LT-1 5.7 0-60 and 13.7 1/4.

I have yet to run my car against one, but this past summer a friend of mine got a new WS6. we were out cruising around and this kid in a Carrera 4 kept following us, and finaly said he wanted to run against the WS6...long story short the Firebird killed it pretty much everywhere...0-60ish...from like 50-100 and we did one from 100-130 and the WS6 won every time...just my two cents :p:

Back in 95 they were quite close. Here is a GREAT test of some more modern comparisons and even now......Remember Carreras both RWD and AWD can launch hard because of their weight distribution and they have good power/weight ratios as well.

Re: C4 Lt1, 1995 vs Porsche carrera 4,1995 (Raistlin)
I raced my neighbor's 96 911 and beat him by .15 - .20 in the quarter mile, before all of the mods to my car. I ran a 13.8o's and the porsche ran 14.1's and a 14.0.

Raistlin, I think that was one of the best drag tests I have seen in recent years. All the times were about what decent people at decent tracks with decent cars can and do run with good weather, all stock. Many other mag times seem fairly slow for alot of these cars.........and these were all done same day , same driver, same track etc. Good DIRECT comparison.
The really interesting thing is the two fbodies they tested the Firebird and Camaro SS. Fairly big difference between the two . Pontiac was lighter (fewer options) and obviously had a stronger production engine than the Chevy just proving the point that ALL production cars are not exactly the same! :seeya
