Are these cats too small?
I need to put cats on my car. I want to put them by my tranny though. No more down the exhaust stream.
Specs:
360CID 5.9L
4500 POUNDS
MAXIUM EPA/CARB COVERAGE
Part No. Inlet/Outlet Config.
50003 1-3/4" No Air
50004 2"
50005 2-1/4"
I know I can cut the neck to make it a 3" opening. But I think this is pushing it.
Or these:
3" casing. Necks can also be cut off to 3"

Re: Are these cats too small? (Raysur)
Raysur , I just had my Exotic Muscle lontubes installed with 3 " Car Sound High flow cats ($140 each from Speed Demon) and mated to my B&B catback with Xpipe. They fit very well and supposedly flow very well . Car pulls much harder! Cant wait to get it on the dyno and to the track. Sounds great in and out...... :seeya

I have no experience here, but I had always heard that they produce to much heat next to the transmission on a auto equiped vette. Out of coursioty were you having trouble with the cats further down stream? I was thinking that you had posted once, that you had them located where the resinator used to be.

Who makes the ones in the first picture? They look exactly like my stock '96's (except the pipe diameter is a bit small). I'd like to find out in case I need replacements in the future. Thanks.

Re: Are these cats too small? (Shriker)
The tops are Car Sound cats. I don't want to go downstream because then I have the cut my exhaust system. I don't mind cutting the upper half but I don't want to touch anything else. Too much of a pain.
The top is EPA approved.

Re: Are these cats too small? (Raysur)
I found out they are too small. I'm going to get this:
So what i'm going to do is put flanges on my x pipe. And put flanges on this cat. The cat is good up to 460ci.:D So i'm have to tamper with my system.
I don't care if the pipes are only 2" each, this thing will rarely be on my car;).
